The Gypaetus Foundation is responsible for the Bearded Vulture Breeding Center at Cazorla. They have launched a campaign to find sponsors for breeding pairs. The goal is to find private financiers who will allow the Foundation to increase its funds and work more effectively. However, sponsorship of a breeding pair is not possible for everyone. The Foundation estimates that two bearded Vultures would need to be maintained at 30,000 Euros per year. This is the level at which sponsorship can be established.
It is designed not for individuals but large corporations with a Corporate Responsibility. Rafael Arenas, president of the Foundation, says that although it seems like a lot, it isn't so much for large companies.
They remind the Foundation that bearded Vultures are monogamous and can mate for almost 50 years.
The Foundation offers many benefits to godparents who are willing to do so. For example, you can baptize your couple's chickens after sponsorship. Names must be linked to the mountain names, conservation people, or towns. Andalusians.
The godparents will receive quarterly information about the evolution of the couple and their offspring, and monthly information regarding the movements made by bearded birds in their early years. Once they are settled as breeding specimens, the godparents will also be provided with information.
What happens if someone in private also wants to collaborate? He too can. A personal sponsorship program has been established by the Foundation. This allows anyone to contribute whatever amount they wish. All donations will be added together until they reach 15,000 Euros, which will enable the sponsorship of a bearded Vulture. These godparents will be invited at all public events that the Gypaetus Foundation organizes, regardless of whether they are in Spain or elsewhere in Europe.
"Until now, we have always worked using public funds, and the Ministry of the Environment continue to finance breeding programs. But we want new projects, expand the area of action, launch environmental awareness, and education actions that we already had prior to the crisis and which now we want recover", says the President of the Foundation. He assures that they have maintained contact with companies to explain the initiative, particularly with "companies within the territory, so that they feel the Project as their own".
