Spanish fashion designer Paco Rabanne has died

Spanish fashion designer Paco Rabanne has died in France at the age of 88. The designer, known for his eccentric designs and perfumes, died on Friday, the parent company of his brand confirmed to the AFP news agency. "He shaped generations with his radical vision of fashion," the statement said.

Rabanne was born in 1934 in the Spanish Basque country. His mother, a seamstress at Balenciaga, fled to France with him in 1939.

The fashion designer had a penchant for futuristic designs. In the mid-1960s he became known for a collection called "Twelve Unwearable Garments", which consisted partly of pieces of metal with sharp edges. His clothes were worn by Brigitte Bardot and Jane Fonda, among others.
