Sirius Accordion Trio from Italy, performed a stunning interpretation of contemporary composers from Finland and Poland. They won the Anton Garcia Abril International Chamber Music Competition in Baza. The 10th edition was marked by the outstanding quality of the 66 participants from countries such as France and Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Estonia, Cuba, Poland, or Israel.
It was evident in the level of participation that the jury decided to give several prizes ex-aequo. Maestro Enrique Garcia Asensio was the president of the jury. He said, "We have had to it very difficult." The jury also included Isabel Villanueva (violist), Javier Herreros (pianist), Jose Manuel Gil de Galvez (violist) and Esther Lopez Caballol (trumpeter).
The Ex-aequo award was shared by Synthese quartet (saxophone quartet hailing from Salamanca) with Kambrass Quintet (brass quartet hailing from Lucerne, Switzerland). Ex-aequo was awarded to the Jakob Trio (violin cello and piano from the Netherlands) and Sauti Duo (a duo of percussion from Alicante–Poland). Liv Quartet, a clarinet quartet hailing from Frankfurt, Germany, won the prize for best performance of a Spanish piece. The Prize for best interpretation of Anton Garcia Abril's work was given to the Lilium Duo (a singing and piano duo from Alicante-Poland). The second prize is 2,000 euros and the third prize is 1,000 euros. Two prizes of 500 euro each were awarded: the prize for best Anton Garcia Abril interpretation; and the prize for best Spanish interpretation, both of 500 Euros. Javier Castillo Catalana Occidente and Cosentino are the main sponsors of the contest.
Collaborations with major Music Festivals have increased this year, thanks to the Anton Garcia Abril Foundation. The winning group will be able to perform a concert at the Panticosa International Festival.
