SEK use - man threatened with gas explosion

A man who threatened a gas explosion in a Bielefeld store has been taken to a psychiatric clinic. The 63-year-old announced on Thursday (October 6) that he would detonate the gas from two bottles he had brought with him and had already started a fire.

The police and public prosecutor's office in Bielefeld announced on Friday that the man's "exceptional psychological situation" was to be assumed to be the background to the threat situation in the city center. The man from Bielefeld said he didn't want to endanger other people.

The man had opened a bottle, lit the escaping gas with a lighter and was then overpowered by SEK officers. The building had previously been evacuated. "According to the investigations so far, the reasons for the actions of the 63-year-old should be found exclusively in the private sphere," the investigating authorities reported one day after the incident.

The arrested man from Bielefeld suffered minor burn injuries and was treated in a hospital under police escort. He then went to a psychiatric hospital. "In addition to the facts of the threat, the Bielefeld public prosecutor's office is examining other possible criminal offenses," it said on Friday.
