"Roslyn" is heading towards Mexico's Pacific coast

Hurricane Roslyn has intensified as it makes its way toward the Pacific coast of Mexico. Roslyn was upgraded to a second-highest Category 4 hurricane by the United States Hurricane Center (NHC) on Saturday. According to the information, the cyclone was about 240 kilometers southwest of the Mexican coastal city of Manzanillo on Saturday morning (local time) and reached wind speeds of up to 210 kilometers per hour.

The NHC expected "Roslyn" to crash into the coast of the Mexican state of Nayarit on Sunday. Before that, the storm will probably lose strength. However, it is expected that it will still be hurricane force or nearly as strong as a hurricane by the time it reaches mainland Mexico.

The NHC warned of flash flooding and landslides as a result of the storm. As a precaution, the Mexican authorities declared a state of alert in the states of Jalisco, Colima, Nayarit and Sinaloa.

Tropical cyclones hit Mexico every year on both its Pacific and Atlantic coasts. In 1997, a Category 4 hurricane, Pauline, killed more than 200 people off Mexico's Pacific coast.
