Prince Harry makes a surprise appearance in court in London

Prince Harry made a surprise appearance in court in London. The US-based son of King Charles III. arrived at London's High Court on Monday to attend a hearing in the trial of newspaper publisher Associated Newspapers.

The Duke of Sussex, pop star Elton John and other celebrities have sued the publisher of the "Daily Mail" for invasion of their privacy.

Among other things, the plaintiffs accuse the publisher of having hired private detectives to hide listening devices in cars and apartments and to illegally record private telephone calls. The publisher is also said to have paid bribes to police officers in order to obtain confidential information.

The publisher rejects all allegations and wants to get the court to dismiss the lawsuit. The London court has set four hearing dates up to and including Thursday for the trial.

In addition to Harry and Elton John, the plaintiffs include British actresses Liz Hurley and Sadie Frost, John's husband David Furnish and the mother of a murder victim.
