A new program for training in CPR techniques has been developed by researchers at the University of Granada and professionals from Poniente University Hospital. It is aimed at students in the sixth and fifth years of primary education. This is a new approach since it is not usually taught to students in secondary or higher education.
CTS 609 Research Group, Laboratory for Research, Education and Planning in Critical and Intensive Medicine, at the University Hospital Poniente, supported the design and implementation of this CPR training program for primary school students.
Although there have been several studies of this nature with secondary school students in Andalusia that were conducted, training children younger than 12 years old was not allowed. However, this work has laid the foundations for teaching CPR to children as young as six. Antonio Cardenas, professor in the Faculty of Medicine of UGR, and specialist in Intensive care Medicine at Hospital Universitario Poniente, said that he was able to design a course specifically for these ages through simulation.
Virtual teaching is used to provide methodological resources for students' work. This has been very rarely used in training.
The children also had a higher level of skill acquisition than 65%. Researchers also observed a high interest among the students to teach the techniques to adults.
