Only 20 percent see Germany currently in a position to take in even more migrants

According to a survey, the right to asylum has lost support in Germany. According to the representative survey by the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy on behalf of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, only 39 percent of the population still consider the right to asylum in its current form to be good. In 2017 it was still 52 percent. 49 percent think the right to asylum should be restricted; In 2017 it was 39 percent.

According to the survey, only one-fifth of those surveyed believe that Germany is currently able to take in even more migrants. 59 percent do not think this is possible, in East Germany it is 69 percent. 39 percent of those surveyed are concerned about the situation in Germany with regard to migrants and refugees - an increase compared to last year (30 percent).

Overall, however, according to the newspaper, the survey shows that the majority of Germans by no means fundamentally reject immigration. If this is oriented towards the interests of the country, it will find the support of the majority. According to the information, the elimination of the labor shortage is mentioned as being in the interest of the country.

Between March 2nd and 15th, 1101 people were interviewed.

The number of asylum seekers in Germany had recently increased. In February, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bamf) received 26,149 asylum applications. Around 24,000 of these affected people who applied for asylum in Germany for the first time - for comparison: in February 2022 there were 13,915. A dispute has been smoldering between the federal, state and local governments for months over the financing of admission and accommodation.
