On Saturday, the Ubeda Festival will be performing flamenco with Estrella and Tomatito

The 34th Ciudad de Ubeda International Music and Dance Festival, celebrating its fourth week, dresses up in flamenco for two of the most important artists of the genre, Estrella Morente and Tomatito. This Ubetense cycle is now open to other musics, which has been a consistent feature in its long history. It does so to attract new audiences and satisfy different tastes while still being based on excellence.

Next Saturday, June 4, at ten o’clock in the evening, Almeria's guitarist and Granada's cantaora will take to the stage in the Renaissance courtyard at the Hospital de Santiago cultural centre to make an unforgettable night. Each artist will present their proposal, so it won't be a one-man show. The night will conclude with the unification of voice and guitar in a hand-in-hand that promises to be historic.

After at least three successful previous visits to the Ubeda Festival, Tomatito will be back. These include his concerts with Jose Merce (in 2019), and Michel Camilo (2010). His solo performance was in 2004. Tomatito will be accompanied by his new tour, "I will live", in tribute to the great masters who have taught him. Jose del Tomate will accompany him on the second guitar, as he holds six Latin Grammys. Kiki Cortinas will be performing with cante and clapping, as well as Morenito De Illora and Kiki Kortinas on percussion.

Estrella Morente will also be performing at the Ciudad de Ubeda'. Her voice can already be heard in 'El amor brujo’ with the Ciudad de Cordoba Orchestra (2012) and her first solo performance (in 2000). As she walks through the hills, she will be carrying a new album, entitled 'Leo'. This is one of her most intimate and visceral projects. It combines her personal legacy with her most personal. Jose Carbonell "Montoyita" and Jose Carbonell "Monty" will accompany her on stage, as well as the clapping and singing of Angel Gabarre and Antonio Carbonell, and the percussions and percussions of Curro Conde Mortente and Pedro Gabarre "Popo".

The International Music and Dance Festival will again wink at the keyboard, which plays a significant role in this edition. Next Friday, June 3, at eight o'clock in the afternoon, Juan Jose Munoz Canivano (a good friend of Ubetense) will perform in the Renaissance courtyard in the Parador Nacional de Turismo. His program, "Sound Universes", will include works by Debussy and Bortkiewicz as well as Khachaturian, Gershwin, and more. Enjoy his versatility, his ability to communicate and interpret with the public. This concert is part the "Music and Heritage" series that covers important and historic places within the World Heritage Site.

This project was started 34 years ago by the Ubeda Friends of Music Cultural Association. It is a non-profit organization that draws on the energy and drive of citizens and has been supported by both the private and public sectors. It is a success because it has the support and collaboration of many administrations, entities, and companies that make the cycle possible. Ubeda is the festival with the most patrons. Its governing institutions include Amigos de la Musica and the City Council of Ubeda.
