Green vines and white houses stand out against the pitch-black lava soil and the even volcanic cones. Even in the tourist centers of Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca, high-rise buildings and electricity pylons have been avoided and instead built in an artistic and traditional way.

Lanzarote owes this privilege to the all-round artist César Manrique, who died in 1992; he dedicated his life to preserving the island's beauty. The Papagayo beaches in the extreme south of the island are particularly picturesque. Price example: A week's flight and half board in the five-star hotel "Iberostar Selection Lanzarote Park" on Playa Blanca costs from 920 euros per person in a double room.
