Those who were clever spent this super summer at home and saved a few vacation days for autumn. Tired of fog, rain and temperatures dropping towards zero? Then let's go and extend the summer in the sunny south. Late autumn is an ideal time for this, as the heat has passed, prices are on the wane (at least outside of the autumn holiday dates) and the sea is still warm.

The Costa del Sol in Andalusia is perfect for a short trip to the sun; the "Sun Coast" in the south of Spain lives up to its name even in late autumn. It lures with lively bathing resorts and dozens of golf courses. With the rental car (compared to midsummer, it is now cheap again) and you can quickly go for a stroll through charming cities such as Seville, Granada and Málaga.

The Levantine cuisine, with its focus on vegetarian ingredients, is currently experiencing a worldwide triumph. In Tel Aviv you can literally find her on the street – at street food. The best place to start is at Shuk Ha'Carmel Market, the heart of Tel Aviv. Between stands with seductively fragrant kebabs and falafel, hummus and sabich, you don't even know where to start - by the way, sabich is a vegetarian aubergine doner kebab, very tasty. The Portuguese Atlantic island of Madeira offers beach holidaymakers only a few artificial beaches. For nature lovers, on the other hand, it is a dream destination with excellent hotels. The silky soft air and the exotic gardens above the capital Funchal already inspired Austria's Empress Sisi in the 19th century.

Today, outdoor fans in particular have discovered the island - for trekking and mountain biking. Explorers hike with or without a guide along the famous levadas, as the historical irrigation canals are called, through Madeira's original nature.

The classic November destinations are the Canary Islands. But the temperatures there are quite different – ​​the volcanic island of Lanzarote is the warmest in November with up to 26 degrees Celsius. Lanzarote's landscape is extremely fascinating - it seems almost impossible not to succumb to the fascination of the Fire Mountains.

Green vines and white houses stand out against the pitch-black lava soil and the even volcanic cones. Even in the tourist centers of Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca, high-rise buildings and electricity pylons have been avoided and instead built in an artistic and traditional way.

Lanzarote owes this privilege to the all-round artist César Manrique, who died in 1992; he dedicated his life to preserving the island's beauty. The Papagayo beaches in the extreme south of the island are particularly picturesque. Sprinkled in the Atlantic 500 kilometers off the coast of Senegal are the Cape Verde Islands - at the same latitude as Acapulco and Martinique, but only a six-and-a-half hour flight from Europe. The sunniest Cape Verde island is called Sal and has almost magical dune beaches. With temperatures of 28 degrees, even in November, which hardly ever drop below 22 degrees at night, Sal doesn't have to hide from the Caribbean.
