"Number of deaths reaches peak"

At the weekend, the federal states and RKI again did not report any corona numbers.

Germany starts the new week with a 7-day incidence of 260 - a week ago we were still at 404 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

In a week-on-week comparison, all federal states are in the red – with the exception of Hamburg.

991 corona deaths were reported to the RKI in the past week.

That's a little less than in the previous two calendar weeks, when 1062 deceased were registered - but still significantly more than in the summer months.

It seems likely that the number of reported deaths will fall rapidly and sharply.

Three aspects speak for it:

First, the number of infections. Experience has shown that the number of cases indicates the development of the number of deaths three weeks in advance - and as is well known, they have fallen very significantly.

Second, the number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care units. It goes back – by 27 percent within just under three weeks. And it is likely to continue to fall. For the first time since the end of September, the number of admissions on Saturday and Sunday was below 100 patients.

Third, the number of senior-age cases. The autumn wave was characterized by a high proportion of the vulnerable age group over 60 in the new cases. Most recently, however, the number of people over 60 fell particularly sharply – by almost 40 percent in the past week.
