Sales in the North Rhine-Westphalian hospitality industry more than doubled in the first half of the year compared to the same period of the previous year, which was more strongly influenced by Corona. Nominally, they were 103 percent above the same period last year, in real terms - i.e. taking inflation into account - by 92.6 percent, as reported by the State Statistical Office IT.NRW on Monday.
In June 2022, real sales in the hospitality industry in NRW – i.e. taking price trends into account – were 41.1 percent higher than in the corresponding month of the previous year. However, it was still 12.2 percent below the level in June of the last year before Corona, 2019. The number of employees in the hospitality industry was 17.0 percent higher in June 2022 than in June 2021.
In accommodation, real sales were 111.8 percent higher than in June 2021. Compared to sales in June 2019, there was a 10.4 percent drop in sales. The catering companies posted 23.9 percent higher sales than a year earlier. Compared to June 2019, it fell by 13.0 percent.
