Armilla City Council started a project to expand the municipal cemeteries. The project covers 8,000 square metres and has different areas. The 'Jardin De Las Cenizas' will be one of the spaces. This is where the loved ones can scatter the ashes of the deceased person and plant a tree.
A space is available for building pantheons, and there is a niche area that houses 284 new niches. A columbarium, as well as a walking area, will be added to the main constructions. These works are intended to urbanize, create streets, and green spaces in the new cemetery area.
The Department of Maintenance made several improvements to the funerary enclosure as well as the maintenance of municipally-owned land. Sources from the Consistory confirm that the government team has made numerous improvements to the municipal cemetery over the past three years. This was done with the sole purpose of making it more accessible and increasing its capacity for those who visit the Deceased.
This expansion will provide a municipal funeral service. It also adds to the existing 184 niches. According to the Consistory, the Department has used "the most recent technologies in the construction funerary infrastructure. This system facilitates ventilation evacuation and drainage as well as activated carbon filters that prevent bad odours."
