Mother of seven gives birth to more quintuplets

After an unexpected pregnancy with quintuplets, a mother of seven gave birth to her offspring prematurely but safely in Poland. Dominika Clarke, who is already a mother to seven children aged ten months to twelve years, gave birth to quintuplets in Kraków on Sunday, Polish media reported. She feels "better than expected" after the pregnancy, Clarke said.

The newborns, three girls and two boys, are named Arianna Daisy, Charles Patrick, Elizabeth May, Evangeline Rose and Henry James. The babies were born by caesarean section after 29 weeks and are currently being ventilated.

The head of neonatology at the Kraków hospital was confident about the condition of the five premature babies. "We hope to reach the happy moment of her release," Ryszard Lauterbach said.

Actually, the couple had only planned one more child. "But it turns out there were more," said Clarke and her British husband Vince. They described the pregnancy as a "miracle".

According to the hospital, the odds of giving birth to quintuplets are one in 52 million. The "chances of winning the lottery" were greater, said the happy mother. But as a mathematician, she likes “this kind of statistics”.
