The Hamburg police are looking for a 35-year-old woman who is said to have kidnapped her two- and three-year-old children from a children's shelter. The woman from the Altona-Altstadt district took the children with her on a visit with her father, who lived separately, without permission on Wednesday afternoon, the police said. "How the mother was able to withdraw the children from the care of the children's shelter is still being examined," said a police spokesman.
A danger to the children cannot be ruled out. "Based on the knowledge available so far, we assume that the child's mother could be in an exceptional psychological situation." A public search was therefore approved by the district court. There has been no trace of the family since Wednesday afternoon.
As it became known on Thursday, the two small children were in the care of the child protection facility in the Heimfeld district because the mother allegedly wanted to kill herself – while the children were with her. "In this regard, the public prosecutor's office and the police are conducting criminal investigations against the child's mother." The 24-year-old father of the children lives in Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia.
The police will receive information about the whereabouts of the family on 040/4286-56789 at the Hamburg police hotline or at any police station. Anyone who sees those they are looking for can also call the police emergency number 110.
