Melinda French Gates speaks out about her divorce: "I couldn’t trust what was there"

Bill and Melinda were married 27 years, before they announced their separation last May. French Gates said to King that she had shed "lots of tears for many years" and that she recalled lying on the floor thinking, "How could this be?" How do I get up? How can I move forward?

She admitted that there were times when she was angry after the split. She said, "That's part the grieving process." "You are grieving the loss of something that you thought you had, and believed you could have for your entire life."

She continued, "It is very painful." "And at the conclusion of the day though I started on this healing journey, and I feel like it's starting to get to me the other side. I feel like I'm turning the page. It's 2022, and I am actually excited about the future and my life ahead.

King also asked French Gates questions about the revelations that her husband had an affair in 2000.

French Gates stated, "I believe in forgiveness. So I thought we had worked some of that." It wasn't a single moment or one thing that happened. It was just that there was enough of it that I realized it wasn't healthy and I couldn't believe what I had."

You can watch King's extensive interview with French Gates Thursday morning on CBS Mornings.
