Gary Lineker has criticized British asylum policy via Twitter as "immeasurably cruel policy" - and dared a NS comparison. The former football star was then sidelined by the BBC, for which Lineker is a highly paid Match of the Day commentator. After a storm of protests from colleagues, the conflict was settled and Lineker was allowed to moderate again.

But the case is not closed. The BBC now wants to discuss its guidelines. The principles of impartiality and freedom of expression both need to be respected - but how does that work when a moderator is a public figure speaking on an important political issue of the moment? In this issue of "Media Week" we talk about the case and its significance.

Meanwhile, the return of pop singer Michael Wendler, which was planned by the television station RTLII, has failed. Wendler had been removed from the RTL show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” after some obscure statements. Now the sister station RTLII (in which RTL is involved) wanted to bring a baby documentary about the Wendlers into the program – and had to back down after a few days.

The "Media Week" is a podcast about the world of media and its makers. Christian Meier, editor at WELT, and Stefan Winterbauer, editor-in-chief of the industry service Meedia, talk about the most important topics of the week every Friday. Background, analytical, entertaining.
