Martin Schindler stormed into the round of 16 with an average of 100

Martin Schindler has reached the round of 16 of the UK Open for the second time in his career. The Strausberger won the first real major tournament since the darts world championship against Adrian Lewis and once again made a big exclamation mark. The German, who is likely to be ranked 26th in the Order of Merit on Monday for the first time, triumphed over the 2011 and 2012 World Champion with 10:5.

"The Wall" played an average of 101.24 and already had the standing. Thanks to his outstanding scoring and a tremendous success rate of 53 percent in the doubles field, the 26-year-old never left any doubt that after 2020 he would make it into the top 16 again create. Even when the score was 9:4, with 164 points remaining, he just missed a match dart on the bullseye. In the 15th leg Schindler went through again, after only four shots he had 32 points left and completed 13 darts to a clear 10:5. world class!

A lot is possible for the German number in the round of 16 on Saturday evening (from 8 p.m. live on Sport1 and DAZN). Especially since three top ten players were eliminated with world champion Michael Smith, Gerwyn Price and last year's winner Danny Noppert. Smith lost 9-10 to world number five Luke Humphries. Price surprisingly lost to Jeffrey de Zwaan from the Netherlands. Noppert was eliminated in the decider against William O'Connor.

Schindler's opponent will be determined in the draw conducted after the conclusion of the fifth round. There is no seeding list for the tournament known as the “FA Cup of Darts”. The other six Germans, including Gabriel Clemens, were all eliminated on Friday.
