Man shot dead in city center – police are looking for two suspects

A man was shot dead on the street in downtown Krefeld on Monday evening. “There was a shot fired on Garnstrasse. One person has died," a police spokesman said. Shortly before 8 p.m., several emergency calls were received, reporting several shots in the street.

According to a police report on Tuesday, the dead man is a 42-year-old Albanian who has lived in Germany since 2018. Since then he has been reported to the police for various crimes. As reported by the "Bild" newspaper, the 42-year-old victim was shot in the back of the head from a short distance. The emergency doctor could only determine death.

Eyewitnesses reported that immediately after the shots were fired, they saw two men flee the scene in the direction of the Alter Deutscher Ring. They described the first man as "average height" and "average build". He was wearing a dark jacket, light trousers and a light headgear. The second man was also "of normal height", wore a dark jacket with a prominent logo on the back, as well as dark pants and a dark hat.

The investigations are ongoing, the public prosecutor's office and police headquarters in Krefeld are investigating in all directions. A homicide squad was set up. The background of the fact is unclear.
