Low vision does not mean you cannot cook or do other household chores.

A wide range of activities was offered at the 5th edition of the ONCE Social Group Week. This edition, which was organized under the slogan "Colors are Values", focused on low vision. Low vision is a condition that affects people with visual impairments between 5 and 30 percent.

Different proposals were made in Ubeda as in other parts of Andalusia to show society the ONCE Social Group's work. Maria Luisa Garzon, director of ONCE Ubeda, stated that although they know us through our vendors, it is more.

Yesterday's Friday activity related to cooking tried to show, with the help of an ONCE member retired, that it is possible to cook with low vision, and do other daily tasks while maintaining a normal quality life. It was held at Interiorismo Trinidad in Ubet. Garzon thanked them for their cooperation and the City Council who are always open to working with the ONCE Social Group. He stated, "It's important that the public administration is conscious of the reality for many people with disabilities."

Yesterday's act also saw Ceuta and Melilla the territorial counselors of ONCE in Andalusia. They stressed that the model of celebration in this area is so popular that it will be exported to Spain by 2023. With this, the Week of the Grupo Social ONCE can have a greater projection and reach more people. She stated that this year we celebrated more than 200 activities in Andalusia (Ceuta, Melilla) and Jaen (ten of them very large).

Activities like the one that was held yesterday are meant to encourage full inclusion and make society realize that universal accessibility is what we all need. Maria Luisa Garzon said that ONCE has been working since 1983 to improve the quality of life of people with severe vision impairment or blindness.

Jose Luis Madueno, the Councilor for Commerce, Industry and Crafts, attended the proposal. He stressed that ONCE and the City Council of Ubeda should once more shake hands to increase public awareness and highlight the outstanding work of the Social Group.

He recalled in this spirit that the European Crafts Days commemoration was marked by the activity "See with your hands". This allowed users to enjoy the clay and work on it, as well as making their own pieces. An earlier edition featured a blind breakfast, or the "Put yourself into my place" proposal. This allowed for a blind tour to help people with vision impairments appreciate the challenges they face.

The Consistory of Ubet collaborates not only in programming but also in its sensitivity and obligation as an administrative. It has taken several actions to remove barriers for people with functional diversity. These include the inclusion of single platforms in roads, the installation of adapted road lights, the incorporation of magnet loops into municipal spaces, the reservation of seating for people with reduced mobility, and the creation of a Typhlology of Vazquez de Molina square, located at the Andres de Vandelvira Interpretation Centre.

The local administration also introduced a Municipal Public Employment Exchange specifically for people with functional differences so they can have a job at the City Council. Madueno stated that 7% of our employees are functionally diverse as a public agency.
