Las Gabias celebrates the festivity San Marcos on Thursday. This popular tradition involves going to the countryside with a family to have a happy day in the company and friends. All ages enjoy traditional products like salaillas, broad beans, and hornazos throughout the day. Traditional music and dances are also performed on this day in rural Spain.
This day is sweet for thousands of residents in the Vega de Granada and included a celebration that took place April 25. This traditional day was cancelled due to poor weather and has been celebrated extraordinarily on May 2. The City Council will offer traditional sweets called hornazos to all festival attendees. These are typically made of a bread roll and a boiled egg inside. Local wine will be served to accompany the meal.
Periurban Park
The neighbors will meet in the Parque Periurbano del Rio Dilar which was established three years ago. There will be music, games, and traditional dances as a way to honor the saint. Vanessa Polo, the mayor of Las Gabias, praised the "excellent atmosphere" created every year by this day. She said that many of our elders will, according to tradition, dance pasodobles as well as participate in traditional games organised by the Youth Area of City Hall.
