Las Gabias begin a project to remodel Parque de la Ermita

This week, the City Council of Las Gabias began a project to remodel Parque de la Ermita. It is located near the Hermitage of Virgen de las Nieves. The investment in this action will amount to almost one million euros and will be funded by the Department of Urban Planning as well as the Provincial Council of Granada.

The final reform project has all the suggestions from the citizen platform, represented by Alberto Rodriguez. Residents of Las Gabias were able to submit all their ideas and requests through this important project.

Granada gardens will be used as an ornamentation, and there are several other suggestions. An amphitheater with 350 capacity for outdoor performances will be built on the corner of Aguila street, Golondrina, and Jardines de la Virgen. This will take advantage of the area's unevenness.

New green areas

Vanessa Polo, the mayor of Las Gabias and Maria Jesus Munoz the councilor for urban planning visited the Parque de la Ermita's constructions this morning. With this intervention the Parque de la Ermita can recover the original aspects of the Hermitage de la Virgen de las Nieves, which is the patron saint for our municipality. It will also recover the traditional poyetes and access stairs, as well as the three original crosses - both in its original location and layout," explained Vanessa Polo, mayor of Las Gabias.

This allows you to access the square from four points. Maria Jesus Munoz, Gabirra's urban planning councilor, stated that the Park of the Hermitage will include several different green areas for recreation and a walk in which it plans to place explanatory markers about the Hermitage's evolution from its creation to the present.

The Hermitage will have two Granada gardens at its rear. These will feature circulation areas that are flanked with myrtle trees. Between these and the amphitheater, a large pergola will be constructed with benches and shade. The project also includes the construction of a large playground, bathrooms, and a warehouse. The company Trafisa was the successful bidder and will execute the project in four and a quarter months.
