In the municipal pool at Las Gabias, more than 300 non-federated swimmers representing the whole province of Granada participated in one of the Provincial Basic Swimming Sessions tests (JONAB), which were integrated into the VIII Winter Swimming Circuit under the protection and control of the Andalusian Swimming Federation.
The tests were held in the metropolitan area ten years ago. This is the same as the original circuit. Their purpose is to encourage swimmers from different indoor pools to participate in swimming. It also promotes non-federated swimming and offers an attractive competition for the residents of various municipalities.
Gabirra's municipal swimming pool hosted the 25-meter-freestyle and 25-backstroke tests for an entire morning as part of the preyoungest category. The 50-meter freestyle was also held and 50 backstroke were performed. Participants included the youngest, junior, infant, junior and absolute.
A sports goal
The competition was created by the municipalities' schools in the various municipalities to provide coverage for girls and boys who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity. Vanessa Polo, Las Gabias' mayor, stated that this goal has been achieved widely, as the number of participants continues to grow each year. Puri Lopez Quesada, the Provincial Deputy For Sports, was also present at the event.
Swimming clubs and schools participated in the day. They included the host Las Gabias with over fifty swimmers. The swimming clubs CD Los Alamos and Time CD had more than 50 swimmers. Motril and Churriana were also present.
Gabirra's mayor spoke briefly about the "excellent atmosphere" that was created at Las Gabias' municipal swimming pool. This is a testimony to the huge acceptance of grassroots sports in the town.
