In several areas of the city, the Armilla City Council has replaced luminaires by LED lights

The Armilla City Council has begun a plan for replacing the existing lighting systems within the municipality. In various parts of the town, such as Marie Curie and Pascal, Sancho Panza and Miguel Servet, Galileo Galilei. Galileo Galilei. Luis Pasteur. Newton, Alexis Carrel. Copernicus Pythagoras. Plaza Galen. In the coming weeks, lighting systems will be replaced at Plaza de Santa Teresa and nearby streets.

The town's public lighting system is being replaced with the goal of making it more energy-efficient and sustainable. This will also improve the quality of the streets. Loli Canavate (the mayor of Armilla) explained that "we are replacing the old, tall columns that were placed many decades ago in our city. They are not beautiful and should be replaced gradually by new models of better and lower streetlights that are below the treetops>>."

New lamps up to 300

In the next few weeks, nearly 300 energy-saving streetlights will be installed or have already been installed. Canavate says, "We continue to place our trust in the technological innovation of LED lighting and energy efficiency. This will allow us to continue changing the lights along the main streets of the city progressively as we renew lights."

The Local Government Board approved the tender to improve public lighting in different areas of the town, for a total of approximately 150,000 euros. This action was carried out in the framework of EDUSI which is subsidized 80% through the European Regional Development Funds. In the near future, we will continue to install low-consumption streetlights in neighborhoods and streets that have not been completed. These new actions will result in energy efficiency projects being launched.

These measures have many benefits, not just economic. "Modern lighting systems will also make environmental improvements," says the Consistory. According to City Hall sources carbon dioxide emissions are also reduced which in turn reduces pollution. This action was divided into multiple action plans.

Marie Curie Street, and adjacent streets, are part of the partial plan. It includes the replacement of all streetlights (around 100) at a height 5m with a 0.5 meter arm. Similar to the Calle Real de Armilla street, 20 lampposts with arms will be placed on the wall. The plan also includes the replacement of lighting fixtures on various streets, squares and avenues within the municipality.
