In view of the slow progress with the second corona booster vaccination, the German Association of General Practitioners has called for a realignment of the vaccination campaign. "By now, at the latest, the vaccination rate should skyrocket - but unfortunately it doesn't," said Federal Chairman Markus Beier to the editorial network Germany.
The cold season has begun, the adapted vaccine is available in sufficient quantities. Anyone who currently wants a booster shot with the adapted vaccines can go directly to their family doctor, said Beier. "Since the vaccine supply far exceeds the demand, we don't have to hold back anything for the patients addressed in the Stiko recommendation." The situation is therefore in no way the same as it was about a year and a half ago.
In view of the low demand, general practitioner boss Beier calls for a realignment of the vaccination campaign: "We are already using every opportunity in our practices to educate our vulnerable patients about the vaccination, but that cannot and must not be the only pillar of this vaccination campaign," said Beier. "There is an urgent need for an adapted vaccination campaign, including an optimized vaccination strategy that also includes the flu season."
