Gazprom plummets 30% on the stock market after suspending its dividend

The company planned to distribute 22,500 million euros in dividends corresponding to 2021.

The Russian gas export monopoly Gazprom has made the decision this Thursday at a general meeting of shareholders to suspend the distribution of the dividend corresponding to the 2021 financial year "given the current situation", which has caused the company's shares to collapse, which has lost 30.46% of its value on the Moscow Stock Exchange.

"Shareholders have decided that in the current situation it is not advisable to pay dividends for 2021," confirmed the deputy chairman of Gazprom's board, Famil Sadygov, through the company's official Telegram channel.

In this sense, the director of Gazprom has explained that, at present, the company's priorities are the implementation of the investment program, including the gasification of the regions of the Russian Federation and preparation for the coming winter.

"And, of course, we must be ready to meet our obligations to pay higher taxes," he added.

Gazprom planned to distribute 1.24 trillion rubles (22.5 billion euros) in dividends for 2021, at a rate of 52.53 rubles per share.
