Garrucha starts to repair the damage done by the storm at its beach. It is valued at more than 250,000 euros

There's no better time than now. Holy Week is right around the corner, and the beaches of the province, Levante Almeria especially, will be one of the most visited attractions by thousands of tourists who will arrive in just a few days. The councils from the various municipalities that were affected by the storm began work as soon as possible.

This is what happened to the Garruchero Consistory. Operators are currently repairing damage estimated at around 200,000 Euros. On Monday and Tuesday, platform accesses were destroyed by the powerful waves. Only one lifeguard module was able to be saved due to the damage. A lifeguard module also destroyed part of the Malecon promenade railing, causing the dunes to be lost. The strong waves and manholes caused damage to many pieces of urban furniture that were intended for beach users, including storage huts and toilets, pergolas for shaded areas, information panels, and watchtowers.

Maria Lopez Cervantes, Garruchera's mayor, stated that "the storm damage to the coast is so serious that we appeal to the various administrations - the Provincial Council, Andalusian Government, and the Government of Spain. The latter is the one with the power of Coasts. Let's work together to clean up the coastline for Holy Week which is a very important date in our local economy, tourism."

The Consistory has completed a preliminary assessment. A more thorough inspection will be possible after the storm passes. There will be more time, but for now it is important to get back to normal as quickly as possible. We have been working with the municipal services, but we are now appealing to the other higher administrations that have more economic and financial resources to begin an evaluation and find a way of restoring the coastline.

Lopez Cervantes insisted that in addition to all the physical damage, which included a beach bar, there was also the massive erosion and loss in sand.
