Frankfurt fans attack supporters from Naples

It's the biggest game in the club's recent history. Eintracht Frankfurt receives SSC Naples in the round of 16 of the Champions League (9 p.m., Amazon Prime and in the WELT live ticker). Oliver Glasner's team will go into the two games against the Italians as underdogs. Nevertheless, there should be holidays for the Hessians. But before the game, some Eintracht supporters once again made an inglorious appearance.

In the run-up to the game, there were physical attacks on Italian fans by Frankfurt fans. As the police announced on Tuesday, there had already been two violent attacks on guest fans on Monday.

First, a group of Frankfurt violent criminals hit three Neapolitan fans in front of a pub in the Sachsenhausen district. About two hours later, around 20 attackers beat three Italians who were just leaving a bar in the same place. In both cases, the victims sustained only minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

When several suspicious groups were subsequently checked, the police briefly arrested nine men who were wearing quartz sand gloves, balaclavas and face masks. Among them were well-known perpetrators of violence, but also persons who had not yet come to light.

In addition, the police gave 22 other people places. Around 2,600 Naples fans are expected in Frankfurt for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday evening. Among them are said to be supporters seeking violence who are known as problem fans. The Frankfurt police want to be more present in the city until well after the end of the game in order to separate the two fan camps and prevent riots.
