This week, the election notifications were sent to Berliners – in two languages: in German and in English. But in the English version of the letter, as the "Berliner Zeitung" first reported, two dates are given for the possible election to the district council assemblies (BVV): first September 12 (wrong), then twice February 12 (right). ).
"This is an annoying mistake. We are in the process of correcting that," commented state returning officer Stefan Bröchler on request. However, the election notifications will not be sent again.
CDU General Secretary Stefan Evers, on the other hand, said: "With all the English humor: This is a dangerous sign of the same negligence with which the Senate drove the last election against the wall." Such mistakes should never happen again under any circumstances. "Trust in democracy has suffered enough under the SPD government."
For electoral law professor Jochen Müller, this error does not lead to a problem: "I don't think that such things can be completely avoided." Such an inaccuracy would not have been worth reporting without the specific history of the election.
