A family of four in Bonn suffered carbon monoxide poisoning because of a glowing charcoal grill in their apartment. The family is said to have put the grill with the still glowing coals from the balcony into the apartment on Tuesday evening, the fire brigade announced on Wednesday. The rescue service then arrived early in the morning because the four of them were complaining of being unwell and having circulatory problems. The family members received emergency medical care and were taken to a special clinic.
According to the mission report, the CO warning devices in the apartment quickly sounded the alarm. Only after intensive ventilation and further measurements did the carbon monoxide concentration fall below the warning threshold again.
Last week, a man in Mühldorf am Inn in Upper Bavaria used a charcoal grill to heat his apartment. According to the police, the 50-year-old named the expensive electricity bill as the reason. Both his wife and nephew were hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning. He now has to answer for negligent bodily harm.
