A cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a traffic accident with a truck in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. The injured person was trapped under the concrete mixer on Monday morning, a spokesman for the fire brigade said.

According to the police, the truck driver was also injured: the 64-year-old was attacked by an unknown person with a knife when he got out after the accident to look at the cyclist. The truck driver suffered a stab wound and was taken to the hospital. According to witnesses, the perpetrator was a man, said a police spokeswoman.

As the fire department spokesman reported, three other people were cared for. About 40 firefighters are on site, it said. The site was cordoned off extensively. Details of the course of the accident were not initially known.

In order to free the woman from under the cement mixer, a so-called rescue vehicle from the fire brigade was needed. However, the emergency services could not get to the scene of the accident quickly enough because climate demonstrators were blocking the A100 city highway. "The rescue was delayed as a result," said spokesman Rolf Erbe from the Berlin fire brigade. At the scene of the accident one had to improvise, the spokesman reported angrily.

The activists of the "Last Generation" said that some of them protested on the city highway and disrupted traffic. The group cannot rule out that the vehicle's delay "is due to a traffic jam caused by us". She sincerely hopes that the cyclist's health "has not worsened due to the delay".
