The beaches along the coast of Granada will be able to welcome the summer season under "magnificent" conditions. Inmaculada Calahorro was the sub-delegate to the Government in Granada. She visited several municipalities on the Tropical Coast today and saw that the Provincial Coastal Service had already completed emergency and repair measures to reduce the damage to beaches from the April storms.
According to the sub-delegate the actions were carried out at different points in the maritime–terrestrial public realm in the municipalities Salobrena and Motril Gualchos, Albunol where a total 980,000 euros was invested. To this must be added the performances which have been performed in Almunecar worth 1.1 million. More than 2 million euros has been invested in both of these actions.
During her visit, she highlighted "the speed at which the work was completed, which has followed a planned schedule, and already on the night San Juan all actions were completed, and the beaches are ready for the enjoyment by citizens.
The sub-delegate visited Castell de Ferro (Gualchos) where she was accompanied by Toni Antequera, the mayor of the municipality. This town was the worst affected by the storms. 430,000 euros were invested in reconstruction of damaged dams. The beach has been regenerated and provides approximately 50,000 cubic meters of sand.
Poniente beach (Motril) has seen the restoration of its transverse profile and conditioning it for storms. The budget for this time was 180,000 euros
La Charca beach (Salobrena), 30,000 cubic meters sediment were provided for the restoration of the beach's eastern end near the mouth of Guadalfeo. This action cost 210,000 euros. On the beach at La Rabita, (Albunol), sediments were also contributed to the defense of the municipality, and for the formation of a dry shore, which will return it to its former state. This was an investment of 160,000 Euro.
Almunecar Project
The works were also completed by the Provincial Coastal Service in Almunecar. This project is specific to this municipality and includes the replenishment of the beaches at Velilla, Cotobro, Pena Parda (La Herradura). All this was possible with a budget of 1.1 millions euros.
