Climate activists block entrance to Department of Transportation and tape themselves in place

Climate activists from the group Scientist Rebellion blocked the entrance area of the Federal Ministry of Transport on Tuesday morning and spilled red paint there. In addition, other activists blocked the streets around the ministry, as a police spokeswoman said. About 50 people were involved in the operation. Nine activists were stuck in the entrance area of the ministry, two more on the sidewalk.

According to Scientist Rebellion, 50 scientists from twelve European countries were involved in the campaign. They pasted scientific articles on the climate crisis to the ministry building and called on the government to stop blocking the speed limit and reintroduce the 9-euro ticket. Banners posted on the group's Twitter account read, among other things, "Stop the frenzied shutdown" and "Together against climate failure."

The personal details of all those involved were recorded, said the police spokeswoman. In addition, the glued items were released by the police.

According to their own statements, Scientist Rebellion is an association of international scientists founded in 2021. With their actions, they call for immediate action to limit the climate crisis.
