Castril is now a member of the network of "Municipalities Twinned by Glass"

Carmen Fernandez (deputy for Environment and Animal Protection) visited Castril and presented the Glass Key to City Council to mark its joining of the "Twinned Municipalities for Glass" network. This Ecovidrio initiative pays tribute to this material and the municipalities that were linked to it in the past. It also promotes the transition to circular recycling and encourages the collection of recyclable packaging in the green container.

Today's delivery was made at Castril City Hall. Miguel Perez, the mayor of Castril and Jesus Gutierrez, the manager of Ecovidrio were present.

Castril was the most important Andalusia production center since the creations of the Castril Window. The deputy also recalled the importance of Castril and highlighted the Diputacion's archaeological intervention for the recovery of the Cueva de Arena.

According to the most recent official data, Castril residents deposited a total amount of 5,000 kg of glass container waste into the green containers in 2021. This was at a ratio of 155 people per container.

"Twinned Municipalities for Glass", a symbol alliance, recognizes glass and the municipalities that have been historically associated with this material. This initiative aims to make public the UN's declaration of 2022 as International Year of Glass and to encourage the collection of glass containers. It also obligates municipalities to promote the transition to circular recycling.

The Ecovidrio project is a collaboration of the CSIC, ANAREVI, and ANFEVI. It has already managed to unify thirty locales such as Burgos and Valencia, Leon and Palma, Llodio and the Royal Site of San Ildefonso. It is anticipated that it will reach 50 municipalities in 11 autonomous community communities, which share a common past with glass.

The UN has declared 2022 the International Year of Glass. This is in recognition of humanity's fundamental role in human development and in particular in fighting the global pandemic of COVID-19, a vaccine container.
