Cantoria City Council is creating a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan. It is based on efficiency and respect for the environment. It also focuses on accessibility, quality of life, and accessibility. The plan includes a series of actions that aim to implement healthier and more beneficial forms for movement within the municipality such as walking or using the bicycle more often.
The government team recognizes that to make the desired changes, collaboration between administrations is not enough. Citizens must also be involved and aware of what is happening. Therefore, it opened a citizen participation process with the goal of learning more about mobility in the municipality in order for it to become more efficient and improve.
Puri Sanchez, mayor, explained that this link and the PMUS Cantoria Survey link allows "all residents and visitors to give their opinions and help in this new strategy for transforming our town in healthier ways".
The City Council of Cantoria relied on a consulting firm to help them with this project. They were able to draft a plan that would not only lay the foundations of a more sustainable development but also apply for European funds in the next calls. These could be either the European Regional Development Fund ERDF, in the ERDF 2021-2027 Operational Programmes, or the European Recovery Fund Next Generation EU, in the programs within the Plan of Recovery, Transformation and Resilience.
