Author files another lawsuit against Donald Trump

Author E. Jean Carroll has filed another lawsuit against former US President Donald Trump minutes after a law to improve penalties for sexual violence came into force. The longtime columnist for Elle magazine accused Trump of raping her in a dressing room at a luxury department store in Manhattan in the 1990s. State-level law allows victims of sexual violence to file sexual assault claims decades later.

The legal representative of the author submitted the documents electronically. She is demanding compensation and fines in an undisclosed amount. Carroll first made the accusation against Trump in a book in 2019.

Trump replied that the act was ruled out because Carroll was "not my type". Carroll filed a defamation lawsuit against the ex-president over his comments. However, the case is stuck in appellate courts as judges must determine whether Trump is protected from legal repercussions for statements he made as president.

So far, the author had not been able to sue him for the allegation of rape because, according to the previous regulations, too many years had passed since the alleged crime.
