Armilla's City Council has installed a defibrillator in one of its patrol cars. This allows officers to quickly respond to any emergency that might require these devices. The City Council currently has five defibrillators. These are located in the Municipal Pool, at Rafael Machado Villar Sports Center in Civil Protection and, for a few more days, in one or two of the Local Police patrol cars.
Loli Canavate is the mayor of Armilla. He stated that having a defibrillator within the Local Police Patrol car will allow anyone suffering from a heart attack to receive treatment in a matter of minutes. Training courses were previously conducted by the municipal agents to ensure that it was used in an emergency. In recent years, different members of staff at all facilities with a defibrillator as well as volunteers were able to take approved training courses. This ensures that there is always someone trained in these areas.
"Without a cardiac defibrillator, survival rates in cases of cardiorespiratory arrest are significantly lower." The mayor stated that this will allow us to be more cardioprotected and be ready to respond in the event of an emergency. Canavate explained that almost always the police arrive first in an emergency. Their actions can save many lives and help speed up the arrival of the health care services.
According to Consistory sources, "Armilla" is a cardioprotected area. This means that anyone suffering from a cardiac arrest can be treated immediately by trained personnel until the arrivals of the Emergency Services. Survival of a cardiac arrest patient depends on basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automatic defibrillation. This will buy time until emergency personnel arrive.
