The total amount of 373,000 euros that the Armilla City Council has allocated to COVID-19 victims is 373,000 euros. The Local Plan for Economic and Social Recovery of Armilla provides support for social policy through an economic endowment of 270,000 euros. Additional subsidies are provided by other administrations in the amount of 103,000 euros.
The council made a budget modification in order to increase credit for Social Services. Loli Canavate, the mayor, says that it is about taking the necessary social protection measures to ensure the well-being of the most vulnerable people and groups. It's about "providing continuity to social aid that the City Council provided to alleviate the effects of social and economic crises" which has meant that the City Council contributes 120,000 euros to the Municipal Program of Support to Families.
Mercedes Lopez Fonseca, mayor of Social Services, recalls that, in addition to the current health crisis, the economic and social crisis have caused loss of activity, increased unemployment, and new social needs. A response is being given all families and vulnerable persons.
The councilor outlines some of the measures taken, including the items that will strengthen aid to the most vulnerable family members; the Food Bank and the Attention of Women who have been victims of gender violence. The councilor explains that items intended for rental aid were taken into consideration. This includes aid subsidy for basic water and electricity for six month, and individual monitoring of all persons at risk of social excluded.
These measures include individual monitoring of those at high risk of social exclusion and special attention for the elderly. We will continue to collaborate with the volunteer network for its work with the elderly, and those with reduced mobility.
