Another “car jail” is to be built at the airport

The drive out to the industrial area of Rothenburgsort - possibly by bus - is one of the rather unpleasant experiences that you can have as a driver in Hamburg. It becomes necessary when your own car has been towed there, namely to the so-called "car jail". This has existed since 2005, but now its capacity is apparently no longer sufficient - a second depository is therefore to be opened at the airport. The radio station NDR 90.3 reported on Wednesday.

In addition to the so-called Terminal Tango, space is to be created for 100 vehicles. When the fence and the office containers are in place - here the release fee of usually more than 300 euros has to be paid - things will start in January next year. According to 90.3, ADAC suspects that one reason for the increase in towed cars is that parking space controls have increased significantly. Not least due to the expansion of the residents' parking areas - most recently Eppendorf Ost was added - many more areas are delimited by patrols, which then not only check the plaques, but also punish gross parking violations. In addition, the absolute number of passenger cars registered in Hamburg has continued to increase in recent years, which is also likely to have an impact. After all: the airport is connected much better by the S-Bahn than the car prison in Ausschläger Weg.
