After the protests, Ecuador ends the state of emergency

Guillermo Lasso the Ecuadorian president, decided to end the state of exemption he had approved as a response to acts of violence by the national strike. These mobilizations against the cost-of-living and government's economic policies now have been ongoing for thirteen consecutive days. This measure allows for freedom of assembly in public places and association. It affects the provinces Pichincha and Cotopaxi as well as Pastaza, Chimborazo and Tungurahua.

On June 13, a number of demands were made regarding the conservative policies of Lasso Executive. While expressing his willingness to talk, the president also condemned a "coup d’etat" that threatened to depose him.

This decision was made at the same moment that Congress delayed the debate on Lasso’s impeachment from Saturday to Sunday. After deliberating for almost eight hours about his role in the "internal chaos", which left thirteen days worth of violent indigenous protests, Congress rescheduled the debate. At the request of the opposition which collected the 47 signatures required to request Lasso's resignation, thirty congressmen spoke in support and against Lasso.

The Union for Hope bench is related to Rafael Correa, former socialist president (2007-2017). It accused Lasso for the "serious internal commotion and political crisis" that have shaken the country for nearly two weeks with demonstrations and blockades. Pierina Correa (sister of former president) said, "We are going into early elections, Lasso should go to his home."

Pope Francis is concerned about the tension in Ecuador lately and he has urged for a dialogue channel to be activated. "I follow with concern what is occurring there, and I encourage all parties abandon violence or extreme positions. The Pontiff stated that social peace can only be achieved through dialogue, paying special attention to the most vulnerable populations and respecting the rights for all.
