La Zubia will be reclaiming this weekend one its most beloved and traditional pilgrimages, which was stopped two decades ago. The Pilgrimage to San Pedro was organized by the City Council and its neighbors. This tradition began in 1956 when the espadrille maker met at the Plaza de Espana, La Zubia, and decided to organize a pilgrimage in order to supplement the celebrations of the Patron Saints. They used donations from neighbours.
These festivals were for many years known as Sympathy Festivals. They were funded by donations from locals who gave "with sympathy". After two decades of no pilgrimage taking place, this year's organizers were the San Pedro residents. This is a beautiful tradition that they are proud to have recovered and have received support from the City Council of La Zubia and many other companies. Puri Lopez, mayor of Zubia says that the municipality is a priority.
This Sunday, June 26th, at the Cumbres Verdes barbecue zone, will be the appointment. It starts at noon. According to current regulations, it is forbidden to light any kind of fire due to high fire risk. Many residents from La Zubia will take part in the pilgrimage to pay homage to Saint Joseph throughout the day. There will also be plenty of horses and carriages available.
The mayor thanked the San Pedro residents for their efforts to restore this valuable tradition. We are glad to celebrate it again, and we hope that it can be repeated every year.
