"Active number sends warning signal" - The current corona numbers explained for you

60,237 corona cases were reported to the RKI yesterday.

This is the highest daily value for exactly four weeks.

Compared to the previous week, there was an increase of ten percent.

This is the ninth working day in a row with a plus compared to the previous week.

The beginning of a new autumn wave is becoming increasingly clear

There are a good 595,000 active corona cases in Germany today.

A week-on-week comparison shows a plus for the first time since July.

If the comparison of assets from the previous week has turned from negative to positive, this has always been an indicator over the past year and a half that a wave of infections is approaching.

The indicator has been 100 percent reliable so far.

The corona incidence increases from 243 to 259.

It is increasing in 14 of the 16 federal states.

A week ago, only Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had an incidence of more than 300.

Today, 7 of the 16 federal states rank beyond 300, an eighth - Bavaria - is on the threshold.

In 14 of the 16 federal states, the corona incidence is up compared to the previous week. An exception is now, in addition to NRW, Thuringia.

The growth is strongest in the southwest: in Saarland and in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Saarland has been the state with the highest incidence for five days now.

146 corona deaths have been reported to the RKI, 56 more than a week ago.

However: 55 deceased were reported from Bavaria alone. It seems obvious that the majority of these are late reports.

Every day we hear the new Corona case numbers. But what do they mean, where are we in the pandemic and what is the trend? Olaf Gersemann explains and evaluates the current figures briefly and concisely - every morning anew.
