"Active cases at January level" - The current corona numbers explained for you

The RKI and the federal states also saved themselves from reporting the number of corona cases over the past weekend.

At the start of the week, the 7-day incidence is now 215 - a week ago it was 243.

In a week-on-week comparison, the incidence in 15 of the 16 federal states is declining. The one exception is Rhineland-Palatinate.

The number of active cases drops to a good 650,000.

This is the first time that the level at the beginning of the summer wave has been undershot again.

The last time there were so few infections classified as active by the RKI was on January 7th, i.e. at the beginning of the first omicron wave.

The number of corona cases admitted to intensive care units reached a 12-week low from Saturday to Sunday at 56.

The number of cases in intensive care units continues to fall accordingly, to 746.

At the same time, the upward trend in free intensive care beds continues.

The 7-day average here is currently 3236. At the end of July it was briefly below 2700.

658 corona deaths were reported to the RKI in the past week.

After three declines in a row, a calendar week comparison shows a slight increase again.

Every day we hear the new Corona case numbers. But what do they mean, where are we in the pandemic and what is the trend? Olaf Gersemann explains and evaluates the current figures briefly and concisely - every morning anew.
