The Zurich-based CVP wants to conquer in the autumn, a Council of States seat. The 51 delegates have nominated on Thursday evening with 4 votes against and 6 abstentions Nicole Barandun, President of the cantonal party, as a candidate.

The party delegates followed with the proposal of the cantonal Board. With the 50-year-old Barandun, the Canton of Zurich will be represented in the Council of States by a woman.

response to "Helvetia" calls

The CVP to react with the candidacy, not least by a number of national councillors launched the campaign "Helvetia calls," said Anna Newec, managing Director of CVP Zurich. The campaign aims to increase the proportion of women in Parliament. "Helvetia calls and the CVP Zürich has heard you," said Newec.

The Canton of Zurich will be represented in the Council of States from the social Democrats, Daniel Jositsch and the free-minded Ruedi Noser. Both come up for re-election. At the Start, SVP national councillor Roger Köppel, and presumably also the President of the Zürcher Green, Marionna Schlatter. (hwe/sda)
