War in Syria : How an activist Assad's torture cellar survived

My story I share with 100,000 other Syrians, of which, unfortunately, not all are alive to tell about it. I grew up in Daraya, a suburb of Damascus, in 2011 for his peaceful protests during the uprising in Syria.

The armed soldiers, who should fight, to we entered with flowers, and offered them a Drink. I believe that changes through words and ideas are causes, not by violence. But my pacifism has been repeatedly put to the test.

Shortly after the start of the uprising, I participated in a peaceful Demonstration. We were driven, under use of tear gas apart. I hid behind a tree. As I looked, I heard a loud Bang, then I lost consciousness. A bullet had hit me in the face.

for the freedom

I wore heavy injuries and had to be five times surgery, but I survived. The perpetrator has been caught, and they asked me if I wanted to have my revenge and shoot him. But that would be for me, not revenge. My revenge is the System that prompted a man to shoot an unarmed fellow citizens, just because the fought for freedom.

In the further course of the demonstrations, the security forces arrested many of the non-violent activists in Daraya, my friend, Islam Dabbas. As a co-founder of an organization that set up emergency medical facilities, I was on 12. December 2012 arrested.

students who collaborated with the Syrian intelligence service, put me at the entrance to the University of Damascus. You pushed me into a vehicle and abducted me. For three years, I was interrogated by the secret services of the regime and tortured.

command of the regime

Three years, I was interrogated by the secret services of the regime and abused. In nine different caught I was bearings in a variety of ways tortured. I was tied up, for example, on the "flying carpet" - two hinges connected wooden plates, which are raised, to the rear is a crash Burr.

In one of the prisons, I tried again, a conversation with the Interrogators begin. My eyes were connected, but I tried to get into conversation with him, because I was hoping that he would not then see me as a dull animal, but the others.

in Spite of sexual violence, torture and humiliation I felt no hatred against those who interrogated me. It was clear to me that they were on orders from above acted and also victims of the system. In the intelligence apparatus of the regime, anyone can become a senseless perpetrator.

After my release, I fled into Turkey, but had my phone with me so I could help Islam, when he enlisted. Often former prisoners after their release, once bad. Who was in prison for political reasons, for which there is no support. In April 2017 I founded, therefore, with the support of the Organisation Kesh Malek the Initiative Ta’afi, the former Prisoners will help to get back on their feet.

The violent death of a friend

last June, I agreed with my fiancé to postpone our wedding from February to March 2018. Islam was not resurfaced, but in February, seven were passed and a half years since his Disappearance – after a penalty reduction for good leadership is a usual prison time for protest participants.

A month later, then a phone call: Islam, the family was informed of his death. My friend had already died in 2013 in prison, probably as a result of torture or execution.

Ta’afi can't help Islam Dabbas. However, we want to support Survivors. We want to donate in Islam, name a scholarship, the Survivors of study. And we stand up for justice so that those responsible are held accountable.

Peaceful resistance

now in Brussels in the beginning of the Syria conference, it is also about freedom and justice to back the Syrian Regime Detained in the view point of the world community. I would like to report, what to me and to Islam.

I know there is no Superman who destroyed the torture centers and the internees liberated. But there are a lot of motivated people. Through our common solidarity to Occur, we ensure that our ideas are heard.

still, the Conviction that the Regime can not be by weapons destroyed, but only through non-violent resistance carries me. This may take a long time. But it is also a book just by word to word. And book to book grow a library.
