VIDEO. Facade of the old home is broken: for eight months for renovation, but demolition was the safest option
Wachtebeke A property in the Stationsstraat in Wachtebeke on Saturday night around 19.30 hrs checked against the plain gone. Owner Ruben Meulemeester (21), the house had in July purchased. He was since september to renovate. “It is a regrettable combination of circumstances”, responds the man in his twenties. “Every free weekend I worked there, but breaking down was the safest solution.”

The fire service was Saturday, around 18 hours on because there was a question of danger of collapse. “Residents had noticed that a crack had developed in the facade, just above the door to the window on the first floor,” says the local police.

“The condition of the house was through the crack so bad, that we in consultation with the owner have decided to close the house immediately to break down,” says mayor Rudy Van Cronenburg (Otherwise). “Also, the neighbors are evacuated because it was about to collapse. We have all services turned on and searched for a safe solution. Degradation seemed to us to be the best.”

New interior walls

Owner Reuben Meulemeester (21) lives a few houses away in the Stationsstraat. He had the house in July, bought. In september, he was started with the renovation. “The new building at the rear of the house is still intact, but it was definitely intended that the house would remain standing,” says the man in his twenties. “We had the foundations dug out and there were new interior walls. We would now begin on the roof, but that chance, we have not been given.”

“Every free weekend I worked there, but breaking down was the safest solution,” he continues. “I was not present when the house began to fall. When I arrived on the scene, I knew immediately that demolition is the safest option. It is a regrettable combination of circumstances. We were all in order. Probably the bad weather with a lot of wind of the past few months, there is no well-done.”

“The building was definitely in order and is - as required - inspected by our service Planning. After they are approved by the schepencollege,” adds Van Cronenburg. “The fire brigade was on the spot to determine what the effective cause of the crack and the subsidence. Since we, for safety reasons, quickly proceeded to demolish, there is no expert langsgeweest to the cause to investigate.”

The house itself dates, according to the owner of 1929. Two hours after the identification of the crack, went the house from the plain. There hit, no one injured. Monday, the owner had a appointment with the insurance company.
