Two ways to rejuvenate a bike (and disconnect) in the Oise

a little over an hour from Paris, the Oise place, with its beautiful countryside off the beaten track : the twelve forests (and not one that looks like : Compiègne, Chantilly, Ermenonville), a series of gardens and ponds, quiet villages... A beautiful collection of religious buildings take advantage of this haven of greenery. All in the saddle for two ideas of cycling weekend.

The Avenue Verte London-Paris : Beauvais to Chantilly

This cycle of 742 km, which connects London to Paris crosses the Oise, about 132 km. It takes two days to travel to the next route (83 km), taking the time to explore all the riches. The first day, with the departure of Beauvais , which you can admire the cathedral and beautiful half-timbered houses in the old centre. The campaign alternates between forests of beech and oak, recalling that it was the garden of the bishops and counts of Beauvais.

A stop is required in the garden of Etournelles, that monitors the bell tower of the church of Breuil-le-Sec . A few strokes of the pedal further, here the marshes Sacy-le-Grand . At the edge of the Oise, the former royal abbey of Moncel deploys its cellars, vaulted in the Fourteenth century. The head in the handlebar, pass through the vast forest of Halatte , all curves and gentle slopes, up to Senlis . The city seems straight out of a movie set, with its cobbled streets, its houses half-timbered, its ramparts gallo-roman, and its small gothic cathedral. The Hostellerie de la Porte Bellon is a charming stop perfect to spend the night.

Chateau, the great stables, pavillon de Manse, garden workers... In Chantilly, the company Bobebike offers guided walks to bike in the area. Bobebike / Photopresse

The next day, stroll still at Senlis, if only to see the royal castle, where Hugh Capet was elected king of France in 987. And then it goes back in the saddle to discover Chantilly , the city of the horse. Via 'avilly-Saint-Léonard , a pretty village on the banks of the Nonette, a few strokes of the pedal is enough to reach the hippodrome, the Museum of the Horse, the castle and the kitchen Garden of the Princes.

have Lunch in peace to The Captaincy, in the ancient kitchens of Vatel, where we whip the cream in the rules of art. The afternoon, discover the gardens favorite of Ours : 115 hectares of harmony between man and nature. All around, the forest of Chantilly, the archetype of the great hunting forests of yesteryear, has over 6 000 hectares of greenery and trodden in the past by Anne de Montmorency and the princes of Condé.

don't miss : the ponds of Commelles : four plans of water powered by the Thève, which offer lovely views of the foliage of beech trees. No panic for the return : the train station of Chantilly serves the gare du Nord train Station in just 24 minutes.

Scandibérique : Noyon to CompiègneQuoi of more bucolic than an incursion in the forest of Compiègne ? Eurovelo 3 / Photo press

The Eurovelo 3, also known as Scandibérique, connects Trondheim (Norway) to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostela (Spain) on a total distance of 5 122 km. In the Oise, we will require only 62 km. The journey begins as soon as Noyon , classified Town of Art and History. Take a look at its gothic cathedral, the oldest in the north of France (1140). 6 km from here, the cistercian abbey of Ourscamp offers the visitor its beautiful ruins open to the sky. A table of the most romantic !

The road follows the course of the Oise, which is adorned with a sparkly dress. Soon, here is the imperial city of Compiègne , nestled at the confluence of the Aisne and the Oise. Impossible to miss the Palace designed by Louis XV, one of the most important royal residences of the court during the summer and fall. Napoleon I added dazzling décor, and Napoleon III brought together a part of the French company and european of the time. The next morning, pedalled with great pomp in the Compiègne forest ! Walkways to star, and many bicycle paths (over 1000 km of roads and paths) pass through the majestic beech-oak woodlands of the national forest, as large as Paris. Boulevard, the "100% green" allows you to breathe with full lungs, to the image of the impressive breakthrough of the Beaux-Monts.

On the way, several villages and hamlets are worth a stop : Saint-Jean-aux-Bois and her small doll houses overwhelmed by the roses, but also Vieux-Moulin and the pavilion of the Empress Eugenie. We reached the apotheosis of this loop of 25 km to Pierrefonds , at the edge of the forest of Compiègne. All eyes are going to the castle of Pierrefonds rebuilt by Viollet-le-Duc : an armor of stone and majestically wrapped in a shade of green. A masterpiece of architecture, feudal, civil and military. A tip : place your bike and follow the tour of the castle.
