The two big service stations along the motorway E17 in Kruibeke are run by the EC Group. In april last year, underwent a major metamorphosis, and opened branches of Burger King and Starbucks. It comes to franchise stores by the EC Group of staff to be with and just there is where the problem lies. “Never is a Big Whopper, as served raw,” complains the staff. “There are simply too few properly paid hands to him with care to prepare.”
According to vakbondssecretaris Benny Willems (BBTK) drag the problems in the meantime already two years. “There is often far too little people to get everything here to keep it going”, he sketches the situation. “A lot of people crochet also because of the chaotic work schedules. When it is less busy, people will be sent home and vice versa they call staff when the peak times are. There may be some flexibility questions of the people, but they are also not on a string. Additionally, on top of that, the payslips are often not correct, and overtime is not reimbursed.”
The problems are greatest in the North station, in the direction of Ghent. There are approximately 80 to 90 people. There was Friday morning at 6 am a stakingspiket built. “The board was aware and had people sent to the shop to open,” testified an employee. “We have, however, a stick to put to block the access and all the doors with ribbons to tension. We allow only people inside for the toilet that for this occasion is free.”
