Review of the Suzuki Baleno - When reason prevails

It has space for a small family, modern safety equipment, and komfortdetaljerne is in order. Roughly how Suzukis Baleno described, and the seller is also good for customers, who demand a notoriously rock-solid car with a good overall economy.

the Baleno is available with three different engines. A classic 4-cylinder Suzuki engine, which must have the good with rpm to deliver torque. The engine is of 1.2 l and is also available in a version with a small hybridløsning. Moreover, Suzuki jumped on the turbovognen with a 3-cylinder 1,0’is. This engine is topmotoren.

We have driven Baleno with all motoriseringer and is most fond of the version with so-called mild hybrid.

Baleno Dualjet SHVS called the car, with a small battery gives a better fuel economy than the version without.

How much there is to save, depends on if you drive much city driving, but the Danish importer estimates that the saving is in the area around 5 per cent.

As the only one of the three motoriseringer have hybrid also start/stop, and it works perfectly. In practice, one senses not the system's intervention, but must be content to follow on a small display.

In a direct comparison with the same engine without the hybrid experienced the effects of more torque however as a bit more ease in a mellemacceleration.

The big difference in the Suzukis hybrid and, for example, Toyota's is that Suzukis are a small, simple system that can not drive the car on electricity alone. At Toyota starts the car on the power the first meters.

We are running here Baleno with the highest udstyrsmulighed, called Exclusive, and here is really what you need. You must, however, be aware that some of the equipment may well appear a little simple. It applies, for example, the car's adaptive cruisecontrol, via the radar can keep distance to the car in front.

the Screen might look a little cheap, but the work quite excellent and is particularly easy to operate. Photo: Jens Høy

It does not work all the way down to the car in front is stationary, and therefore you should even slow down from approx. 20 to 30 km/h. and even turn it back on when the speed is above approx. 30 km/h. In practice, the system can, therefore, most be used on the highway. Balenos keyless start is also a bit simple. The tailgate has a button, so you can open the car without having to press the key.

on the car's equipment list is also the emergency brake, Bi-Xenonforlygter, multimedieanlæg with navigation and rear view camera, alloy wheels and air conditioning. The reversing camera is, however, outside baksensor, so here you must even keep an eye on the obstacle. Here are no beeps, a warning, when you get closer to the obstacle-a. The only sound is if you hit one or the other.

the Instrumentation offers a wealth of information. A small display between the instruments can thus show whether the car is accelerating, how much torque/power the engine develops.m.m. Unfortunately you can not see the speed digitally, and it must be said that a shortcoming in a modern car. Baleno is exceptionally spacious and amongst the largest models in the class.

It may well tempt you to, for example, fills the car up with luggage and people. But the suspension is a little simple and with big cargo manages not to smooth the road bumps quite as good as some of the competitors. The car's steering also requires a little getting used to, which is to be controlled constant, as the steering lacks a little selvopretning.

On the positive list is the car's 4-cylinder engine, with 90 hp makes the Baleno quite fast, if you are utilizing all of the forces, that developed high in the omdrejningsfeltet. The gear change is also very precise. As the hybrid is the official consumption figures around 25 km/l. During the test we achieved around 18 km/l as the best result.

in Total, gives the Baleno so much car for the money, and the equipment list is long.

the Baleno Is 1.2 Dualjet

4 cyl. DOHC, 16V with dobbeltindsprøjtning in each cylinder. ISG – electric motor, integrated starter/generator, which assists the petrol engine for less consumption (3 hp and 50 Nm).

120 Nm v. 4.400 r/min.
