Pompeo: Hong kong has no longer autonomy

The special region of Hong kong can no longer be considered as being autonomous in relation to China.

How does it sound on Wednesday from the USA's secretary of state, Mike Pompeo.

pompeo's announcement comes as a reaction to a new controversial sikkerhedslov have been announced in Hong kong.

No sensible person today can argue that Hong kong has a high degree of autonomy from China, when you look at the facts, says the us secretary of state.

- It is now quite clear that China forms Hong kong after himself, he says.

the UNITED states is generally supportive of the idea of a Hong kong independent of China.

Hong kong has so far had favourable terms of trade with the UNITED states, which has helped the region to establish itself as a global commercial centre.

the Agreement requires, however, that the former british colony has a high degree of autonomy from China. Hong kong was handed over to China in 1997.

- I have today announced to Congress that Hong kong is no longer eligible for the treatment from the UNITED states in relation to the applicable rules, as was the case before July 1997, says Mike Pompeo.

The chinese government announced last week the new sikkerhedslov, which has subsequently led to major protests in Hong kong.

the UNITED states, the european UNION, the united kingdom and a number of other parties have expressed concern over the law. They fear it will be a turning point for Hong kong.

The concrete details of sikkerhedsloven is not yet known.

It is known, however, that the new law is a targeted attempt at secession, subversion and terrorism. It can also lead to that the chinese intelligence agencies are creating offices in Hong kong.

The recent unrest in Hong kong comes after the region last year was hit by large protests. The protests were initiated by a bill that would make it possible to supply the citizens of Hong kong for prosecution in China.
